Effect of Pneumothorax on Distribution of Inulin in Nephrectoiniz Rabbits

Abstract
Inulin was given by the single method to the groups of nephrectomized rabbits: one was the control group and the other group had had unilateral pnumothorax. Both groups were victimized at 5, 30, 60,90, and 120 minutes after the injection, respectively, and the inulin concentration from arterial blood, right and left lung, skeletal muscle and small intestinal muscle was measured by the resorcinol method without alkali treatmnt of Schreiner.
The following results were obtained;
1) At 5 minutes after injection, the plasma inulin concentration of the rabbits subjected to pneumothorax was higher than that of the control rabbit. On the other hand, 30 minutes after the injection of inulin to the group with pneumothorax, the disappearance constant of plasma inulin was increased, suggesting a diffusion of high inulin concentration left in plasma water.
2) The plasma inulin concentration in the right lung became diminished in both groups (control group and group with pneumothorax) as time passed and a higher concentration and decay rate of inulin at 5,30 and 60 minutes after the injection was shown in the later group.
3) In the group with pneumothorax, the inulin concentration in the left lung also diminished as time passed and the same was noted in the control group. In the rabbits subjected to pneumothorax, such decreasing tendency of the concentration and the decay rate were more obvious than those of the control ones, suggesting more rapid uptake and removal rate of the substance by the group with pneumothorax.
4) In the rabbits with pneumothorax, the inulin concentration in the left lung at 5 minutes after the injection was higher than that of the right lung and the decay rate as time passed was also higher in the left lung.
